Meadow Valley Electric, Inc Wins Gold-Level Safety Award
Each year, ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors) evaluates businesses across the nation, and grants safety awards through the STEP (Safety Training & Evaluation Process) program. This program evaluates companies on areas such as safety training, incident reports, OSHA citations, safety resources, inspections, and more.
For the past several years, Meadow Valley Electric has participated in the STEP program, and recently won a gold-level safety award for the 2009 year. Meadow Valley Electric participates in the Keystone Chapter of ABC, which covers 7 counties in South-Central Pennsylvania.
Barry Miller, Vice President of Meadow Valley Electric, Inc., shared a few comments on the award:
"Our firm has had a safety program, and a safety committee for a long time, and quite frankly I was fairly pleased with how safe our organization had been over the last few years. But I still decided to have our safety committee fill out the STEP application in an attempt to find a comparison to others in the industry. It turns out we are safe. For 2007, we received an award at the silver level of the STEP program. Though pleased, this also pointed out to us that we have room for improvement. Our safety committee now had a point of reference for where they stand among their peers. We recently received our STEP results for 2009, in which we were awarded at the gold level! We plan to continue to apply for the STEP award each year; in my view it will only lead to a more conscientious effort to continuously improve our organization's safety record."
Meadow Valley Electric's sister company, ESCO Inc. also received a gold level award through the STEP program for 2009.

PA Sunshine Program approves MVE Partners' 200KW PV Solar proposal
Almost 1,000 PV Solar panels are proposed to be intalled at Meadow Valley Electric's Route 322, Ephrata, PA location. This proposal was accepted in Pennsylvania's first tier of the Sunshine Program allowing for maximum benefit from the states commerical PV Solar program. The program is limited to 200KW, privately owned commercial properties and limited supply of funds. Tim Bollinger, MVE's treasurer, says, "not only does the state's funding and the Federal government's 30% tax credit make solar power an affordable green energy solution, but it's also necessary for solar to have a practical financial return on investment." Bollinger is anticipating his system will produce more than enough electricity to operate his facility. Any additional electricity produced beyond what is used will be sold back to the PPL Electric to pay for the system. In addition, a meter will be installed to record the Kw produced by the panels regardless if it is used by MVE or sold back to the utility. This meter provides the necessary records to qualify for Renewable Energy Credits. These credits are then able to be sold back on the open market to utilities or companies that need to or want to meet renewable energy production quotas. Mr. Bollinger plans to have the system installed by the end of the year before winter sets in.
